guide here. Do I need to learn PHP to implement this script? No, you do not need to learn PHP to use this script. Just install the script (as mentioned in the installation guide) and your membership website will be ready to accept user memberships. However, if you know PHP, you have the option to modify or experiment with the original files. But learning PHP is not necessary to use this script and manage your membership software website. Even without knowledge of PHP your membership website will be running with the full features. I am not familiar with HTML, PHP and MySql, how can I use this script? Knowledge of PHP and MySql is not necessary for running this script. Once members fill up the registration form, they are taken to PayPal's secure payment page. Here they can pay through either their credit card (Visa, Master, Discover, Amex) or their PayPal account. This payment goes to your PayPal account. After the payment, they are shown a confirmation message and a membership activation email is sent to their registered email address. Can I customize every page of the member's area? Yes, you can customize every page of the member’s area. You can modify color, graphics, header, footer and obviously the content. However, if you do not know PHP, do not modify any of the PHP code, only modify your website content (the visible part to the members). However, do not worry if you do not know HTML, there are many HTML editors where you can create your web pages without any knowledge of HTML. You just need to design your web page and rest of the coding is done by the software (HTML editor). Macromedia Dreamweaver is the industry standard for designing web pages. You may also get some free but powerful HTML editors, like - Page Breeze or CoffeCup Free HTML Editor. If you want to learn HTML yourself, you will find good tutorials at W3Schools.com and About.com. How do members subscribe to my membership website? Once vistors fill up the registration form (available at the signup page), they are taken to PayPal's secure payment page, where they pay the membership fee. They can pay through either their credit card or through their PayPal account. On successfull payment, the script shows them a confirmation page and sends an actiavtion link to their registered email adress. Once they click on the activation link, their membership is activated and they can now login to their account. (Note: you can also enable or disable any member's account from your Admin Panel.) Can I set a trial period for my subscription/membership? Yes, you can set upto 2 trial periods for your membership website. For example, you can charge your members $0 for first week, $20 for next month and then $50 each month. Trail periods are purely optional, you can set 1 trial period, or 2 trial period or no trail period at all. What if the members stop paying the membership fee? If their account ever goes behind in membership fee payment, script will disable their access. You can also do it manually in your administrator's area. What if members forget their password? If a member forgets his password, he can click on the "forget password" link and the script will email them a password reset link. If they request, you can also send them a password reset link form your Admin Panel. How to handle membership cancellation? Membership cancellation is automatically handled by the script. If the user cancels his membership or stops payment of the membership fee, script will disable their membership access. You can also edit memberships in your administrator's area. Why create a membership website? Membership websites grow your income exponentially. They are a better revenue generator than pure product sales. Consider the following example: Case I. Your average number of sales per month is 100 and price of the product is $50 Case II. Your average number of new subscribed members is 100 per month and membership fee is $50 per month. The first month your income from product sales will be $5000 which is equal to the income from first month subscription fees. In the first case, you will have to sale 100 products each month. In other words, you will have to find 100 new customers each month to keep your revenue at the same level. But in the second case sale, first month product sale ensures a recurring income of $5000 every month and even if you get the same number of new customers each month, you are growing your business rather than keeping it at the same level. Therefore, selling membership subscription is a smarter way of generating revenue. Subscription raises the "life-time value" of your sales because every sale gives you a recurring income without any more additional effort. It is also called a "residual income". If you are selling products, the same number of sales each month will keep your revenues static. But if you are selling subscriptions, the same number of sales each month will keep your revenues growing. As in Case II : 1st month: 100 subscription -> $50 X 100 = $5,000 2nd month: 100 subscription -> [$50 X 100] + recurring income from previous subscribers - $10,000 3rd month: 100 subscription -> [$50 X 100] + recurring income from previous subscribers - $15,000 4th month: 100 subscription -> [$50 X 100] + recurring income from previous subscribers - $20,000 5th month: 100 subscription -> [$50 X 100] + recurring income from previous subscribers - $25,000 6th month: 100 subscription -> [$50 X 100] + recurring income from previous subscribers - $30,000 ---------------------------------- Total income in 6 months: $105,000 But if you would have been selling products worth $50, the same number of sales in the same period would have given you an income of just $30,000 !!! That is a difference of 250% !!! Therefore, creating membership websites is a smart way of growing your revenues.
